MELT THE ICE
This sticker design was created to raise funds for mutual aid efforts during the federal occupation of Minneapolis, MN in early 2026.
Being a Hispanic resident of the Twin Cities, my heart was broken to see my community being targeted, attacked, and stolen. I was grasping to figure out what I could do to help and landed on the idea to design and sell stickers to raise funds for the Women's Foundation's Immigrant Rapid Response fund. By the end of the fundraiser I had raised over $700.
I approached this design with protest signs in mind. There were several clever slogans being popularized by this movement, and I wanted to highlight one that was short, too the point, and avoided profanity in order to broaden the accessibility of the design. I printed the design in black and white in order to keep costs down so the amount donated could be stretched. I opted for hand-done typography created in Illustrator so the text also acted like shapes that could fit in and around each other. The goal of this design was to be straight-forward, bold, and cheap to reproduce.
